Lilli Feisty :: Blog » The Romance Studio Review for Dare to Surrender!

Tuesday 26 January 1:23:25 UTC 2010

So, Dare to Surrender got a great review over at The Romance Studio! As a writer of erotic romance, I’m always worried readers will think it’s all about the sex, so this line:

Ash and Joy’s characters have an astounding depth to them.

Made me very happy! I also loved this:

Once again, Ms. Fiesty introduces the reader to the world of BDSM without taking the reader so far into that world that they may become uncomfortable with reading about it. I found myself greatly enjoying this story.

Thanks, Romance Studio!

Redneck Romance Writer » A Not My Kid’s Just Sayin’

Monday 25 January 23:27:17 UTC 2010

To Not My Kid
Honey, don’t worry. Tomorrow, you’ll have a cake. You’ll have crab. You’ll have anything your little heart desires. I know you don’t think it’s going to happen. I know you don’t think you’ll get anything worthwhile. But I’ll do my best. I really will.
Just sayin’
To Not My Kid’s Mom
Seriously? Can’t you give your kid a break? Yes, I realize you have drama, but can’t you leave NMK out of it? The idea that your son can absorb your stress is so heinous to me but that seems to be your way of dealing. How about this. How about taking responsibility for your own feelings. I get that you don’t want to get rid of the guy that’s currently causing you so much angst. I get that you enjoy the adrenaline. Just admit it. Stop playing the victim. ‘Cause frankly? I don’t believe it.
Just sayin’
To The Redneck
You are the man. You’re the best man. We’re watching couples all around us crumble apart and yet, I can’t imagine my life without you. I’m stickin’ with you.
Just sayin’
To My Characters
Seriously? Time Travel? Why oh WHY must we do time travel. Next, you’ll be wanting me to write vampires or something. *shakes head* This reminds me of a historical I wrote(#11)…..
And what the hell is with the weird plot stuff? I even plotted this one and you messed with me.

How many books did you write, and how long were you writing, before your first acceptance?

I started writing six years ago. It took me two years to finish my first fiasco of a novel and then another year to write the second. Around that time, I discovered erotic romance and was bitten by the bug. After reading everything Ellora’s Cave had ever published, I ran out of reading material and decided to write my own spicy story. I wrote my first erotic book and it was accepted surprisingly fast.

What was the most surprising thing you learned after becoming published?

That I had no clue how to write! Seriously. If there was anything I could’ve done wrong, I did it. I don’t know how I sold that first book as it was one huge mess—head-hopping, misuse of dialogue tags, overuse of adverbs, no use of pronouns! Jeez! And what did I learn? That editors are …

Dana's Magic and Mayhem » Updates!

Monday 25 January 16:16:00 UTC 2010

I know I haven't posted in a bit, but I've been busy busy! First off, Noble Blood is off to the publisher. Cross your fingers and toes (and legs and arms) that my editor likes it and picks it up. Jaden, Duncan and Moira deserve a happy ending, don't you think?

Second, I got artwork for Animal Attraction, the second Halle Puma anthology. (Long story behind why I got that artwork before Mating Games… too long to go into here, but it's all good and had my full approval.) Wanna see?

Is that not pretty? I Snoopy danced when I saw it.

Work has started on Hecate’s Own for real now that Noble Blood is out the door. I've readjusted my schedule a bit. I'm planning roughly seven projects this year and I'm already a little behind due to an early head cold and my arthritis acting up more than usual. Still, all in all it's been a productive month.

So my book schedule for the year looks like this so far:

May 4th: Dare to Believe in PRINT! WOOT! I'll be starting a contest in April for an autographed copy.

June 1st: Mating Games in PRINT! DOUBLE-WOOT! That will be the Wallflower, Sweet Dreams and Cat anthology. And yes, I'll be holding an autographed copy contest for this one, too, starting in May.

Late July: Bear Necessities in ebook! I'm leaving off the date because it's changed once and there's a slim possibility it could change again, but so far the month … [Link]

Nine Naughty Novelists » Dutiful

Monday 25 January 16:02:00 UTC 2010

It’s the middle of the morning routine, with kids asking for milk and fighting over the fake promotional Disney Visa card that came in the mail on Saturday. I'm trying to keep everyone on track but it's hard.

I’ve been called for jury duty today.

It’s the sixth time this month.

See, in our county, jury duty is for a month long stretch, and there are only four panels of possible jurors each month. So at least once or twice a week since the beginning of January, I've had to trek down to the courthouse, sit in a sequestered room with fifty or so other people, and wait for them to call us into the courtroom.

So far, I haven't been picked. I have, however, gotten a lot of story ideas out of the whole process. (Last week's two-day trial, which took jurors up to and including the person right next to me, sounded fascinating. I was almost disappointed not to be picked!) I'm not getting a lot of writing done this month, because the interruptions from jury duty selection have really thrown off my work and writing schedule. But I'll have a lot of fun stuff to work on once I'm settled back into the routine.

So I'm guessing today is my last time to be called. I'll schlep on down to the courts, notebook in hand, and wait for the process to start all over again. And if I'm lucky, I'll get another story idea out of it! [Link]

Erotic Romance Author Red Garnier talks about romance, life, books, travel » Sunday oopsies . . .

After a half hour of storytelling, the little boy was still not properly satisfied. “And then what?” he asked the mom.

The weary woman slapped the book shut. “And they lived happily ever after.”

“But then what? Then what happens?”

“Then they die! All right? They. All. Die!”

The Otherworld Diner » Rediscovering Simple

Monday 25 January 14:17:21 UTC 2010

I remember simple.

Simple was standing on my father's shoes while we danced to song on the radio. Simple was the smell of clean laudry pulled off the clothesline on a summer day. Simple was staring up at puffy clouds and seeing dolphins, or ships or dragons sailing above.

It wasn't about weather.

Simple was about play. It was about innocence. It was about slowing down long enough to notice the beauty around you. And who has time for that these days, right?

Wrong.

I do.

I’m making the time because after struggling for a year with writer's block and a near-dead muse, I've decided to clean up my act. In 2010, I am reacquainting myself with simplicity. And you know what?

It’s working.

Writers stress over creating believable characters and ignore the characters of friends, family, coworkers.

Writers stress over the pacing of their WIPS and forget to slow down to take the dog for a long walk or say hi to an elderly neighbor.

Writers stress over plot holes but don't always see the heart holes in the fabric of their life stories.

I’m done with stressing. I'm back to simple.

So grab a mug of hot cocoa, pull up a chair and let the story begin…again!

Monday 25 January 13:12:09 UTC 2010

Woot! I love starting off a new week with good news.

My upcoming print release of Personal Protection is now available at The Book Depository at 25% off. Don't forget The Book Depository offers free worldwide shipping.

Now I really really would prefer that Canadians support Canadian stores — and since just about the only bookstore we have left is Chapters/Indigo, I'd love to send you there. But guess what? They are the only online bookstore that don't have my book available to preorder yet. Why? I have no idea. They do have other Samhain books available for preorder. For instance, I ordered next week's blogger Deidre Knight's fantastic Butterfly Tattoo back in July 2009 even though it doesn't release until next week. So they do stock Samhain titles. But mine's not there :(

Amazon.com has it, as does their British co.uk site AND their Canadian site, and has been for several months. Borders has it available to pre-order. So does Barnes and Noble.

So Chapters/Indigo, what's up with you? Why aren't you carrying a book written by a Canadian author?

Speaking of Amazon, my Private Property has been hovering around the bottom of the top 100 best selling romances since before Christmas. I blogged the other day that it was up as one of the top best selling Westerns. It reached #87 on the Romance list and #22 on the Westerns list for most of yesterday.

Here’s the Western list — I'm on the FIRST page! Though I don't think there was … [Link]

Kiss and Tell » Chloe Harris: A Glimpse Behind The Scenes

Monday 25 January 13:00:00 UTC 2010

Chloe Harris is . . . the pseudonym for two writers, Noelle Henderson and Barbra Kolten, who've joined forces to write intriguing and sexy stories . . . Barbra lives together with her cat (“Princess Mimi”), who naturally isn't very happy that she is spending so much time on writing. But this folly of the living can opener with opposable thumbs is mostly tolerated.

Hi, I’m Barbra, but you can call me B* – pleased to meet you! Chloe Harris’ debut novel Secrets of Sin is coming out tomorrow!
Here’s a bit to whet your appetite. The cover is yummy, innit? But it’s not just the cover:

On a Caribbean island of alluring delights, Emiline du Ronde-Barhydt commands a large estate, vast wealth, and unwavering devotion. Her inheritance and dazzling beauty insure that she’s granted her every wish . . . or almost. The one thing she can’t get is freedom from her proud wayward husband. When her husband, sea captain Reinier Barhydt finally agrees to give his determined wife the divorce she craves – it’s for a price: three days of total submission to his every erotic demand. Both fall under the spell of the most forbidden sensations that reignite every delicious inch of their bodies . . . and Reinier soon realizes that he is no longer master of his carnal game. At the mercy of his own raw shattering needs, the three red hot days may just turn into a lifetime of smoldering passion . . .

Fierce Romance » Guest Interview – Juliet Burns

Monday 25 January 11:30:00 UTC 2010

I'm so happy to introduce a friend of mine to all the Fierce Romance readers. Juliet Burns writes really hot historical romances for Red Sage Secrets and she's here today to let us get to know her a little better and to tell us about her newest novella in Secrets Vol 28.

Juliet Burns lives in Texas with her husband of twenty years and their three active kids. She likes to think her emotional nature—sometimes referred to as moodiness by those closest to her—has found the perfect outlet in writing stories filled with passion and romance. Juliet spent her youth with her nose in a book, immersed in the worlds of Jane Eyre and Elizabeth Bennett, and believes romance novels have the power to change lives with their message of eternal love and hope.

NM: Hey, Juliet! So glad you could join me here today. We've just read your official bio. Anything else you want to tell us about yourself?

JB: Ok, let’s see… I’m an old, fat, married gal with 3 kids. I love to read, sing, and hang out with friends. I have a big family and I’m kind of the “event planner” for the family. I have 4 sisters, and I was named for my grandmother (middle name: Ione)

NM: Wish I lived closer, I'd definitely be hanging out with you! What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?

JB: I’ve been fired from almost every job I had, so working for myself is a much better career choice for … [Link]

Beyond the Veil » The Zombies are Here!

Monday 25 January 11:30:00 UTC 2010

My first zombie story is out! It's a novella called "Simon Says" in the HALF PAST DEAD anthology from Kensington Brava. Look for it in a bookstore near you. Here's the blurb:

Special Forces soldier Simon Blackwell ended his affair with Mariana Daniels three years ago, but he hasn't stopped protecting her. Mariana has no knowledge of the dark, deadly creatures that lurk in the forest surrounding her clinic, or of the mysterious powers that make Simon the only one who can defeat them. But soon he'll have no choice but to reveal the truth, and urge her to trust in an explosive passion that never faded…

Buy it now from Amazon or wherever you buy trade paperbacks!

And the first novel in the series is coming out at the end of February. It's called ONCE BITTEN, TWICE DEAD. Here's a little bit about the book:

Thrills, chills and a smoldering sexy hero combine to unforgettable effect in Bianca D'Arc's irresistible new novel of paranormal romance…

When police officer Sarah Petit investigates a disturbance in an abandoned building, she expects to find a few underage drinkers. Instead, she's attacked by creature straight out of a horror movie. Waking a week later in a hospital, Sarah is visited by Special Forces soldier Captain Xavier Beauvoir. The zombies who attacked Sarah are the result of military research gone terrifyingly wrong, and Sarah's immunity to the virus makes her the perfect person to help Xavier eradicate them. But his smooth Cajun accent, whiskey-colored … [Link]

Star-Crossed Romance » Guest – Cheryl Brooks

Monday 25 January 11:30:00 UTC 2010

Good morning everyone! Today's guest is Cheryl Brooks who's been with us before so I'll keep my part of this short :-) If you haven't already read it, you can check out my review of her latest book, Fugitive here

Oh, and make sure to read all the way down to the Lynda Again section. Sourcebooks is offering a giveaway of two copies of Fugitive you don't want to miss.

Okay, take it away Cheryl!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello! My name is Cheryl Brooks and I’m the author of The Cat Star Chronicles series of erotic science fiction romance. I’m very pleased to be invited to guest blog here on Star-Crossed Romance to promote the latest book in the series, Fugitive. Since this is primarily a sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal site, I thought I’d talk a little bit about what it’s like to write that sort of thing.
So how does one write science fiction? The truth is, I don’t. Oh, I come up with some nifty little gadgets, but you won’t get a lot of technobabble from me, so what I write is probably more aptly described as futuristic. Even so, the best part of any sci-fi story really isn’t the technology anyway, it’s the characters. You can have all sorts of cool stuff that enables you to fly from one world to another, but if the characters aren’t interesting, the story won’t engage the reader.
I recently went to see the movie, Avatar. The basic plot wasn’t anything new, but the characters were developed enough to make them seem … [Link]
Building Castles – Kelly Jamieson's Blog » WIPs and Chains
Monday 25 January 11:00:00 UTC 2010
I’m sticking to Office Wife, even though I have reached that point where I believe I have written 125 pages of utter crap.
I want to make myself finish this story and then I can back to something else, or even start one of those new ideas.
I’m not doing so well on the “not going back and editing every time I open the document” plan. I keep doing it. I’m trying not to.
My fear is that this story is meandering all over the place like a wild pantser plot, and my characters are not acting at all consistent with their motivations. But I’m getting to know them better, and I have gone back a couple of times and added things to the beginning of the story that make them more real and believable and dimensional. And I have other ideas, too. This seemed to work for me before, going back to the beginning after I know the characters more fully, and fleshing out both them and the story. I know there’s not a right way or a wrong way – I’ve read that you should know your characters intimately right down to what kind of toothpaste they like to use before you even start writing, but I’ve also read that it’s okay to get to know them along the journey.
So once again I’m just trying to find my way, trying to find my balance with this. It feels loose and a little vague but I’m going to keep going and hope … [Link]
Taste of Kiwi » Road Trip: Auckland to Wellington
Monday 25 January 8:07:14 UTC 2010
I haven’t done the trip from Auckland to Wellington for a long time. Yep, I was excited about the prospect of a trip South. We picked up the van we had to drive to Wellington the night before. It’s a little van with vinyl seats and not much leg room. Mr. Munro complained the van didn’t like going fast. He had trouble coaxing it past 100km per hour, which is our speed limit. After little sleep (we had a phone call at 2.00am – highly uncivilized if you ask me!!) we hit the road at six-thirty.
It turned out that the van wasn’t too bad for leg space and a towel stopped the problem of sticking to the vinyl seats. The van loved going up hills, which was a bonus, but on the down side it also loved to guzzle gas. We had to stop three times to refill during the eight hour drive.
The weather was beautiful, without a cloud in the sky. The iPod worked well and we drove with the windows down and the music blaring – well as much as Mr. Munro lets the music blare. He’s a fuddy-duddy that way!
We stopped at Lake Taupo, which is the biggest lake in New Zealand, and supposedly the site of the largest volcanic reaction the world has ever seen. You’ve probably heard me mention Taupo before. I like it very much and have some wonderful memories of family holidays spent there as a teenager. I pointed out …
Naughty and Spice Blog » I’m giving it up
Monday 25 January 8:00:13 UTC 2010
So I gave it up. Or I’m seriously trying to. On Tuesday it’ll be a week.
What did I give up, you’re wondering? Is it carbs? Is it caffeine? Is it men? Is it writing? Is it smut? Well, maybe to some of those, and maybe not. But they’re not what I’m trying to give up at this moment.
No what I’m trying to give up is…soda. All soda. My Achilles heel. My weakness. The love of my life. Okay not quite the love of my life, but we’ve been together forever. But when we’re together, water doesn’t exist. Nothing exists beveragely speaking except for soda–oh and coffee (decaf, I gave up caffeine years ago).
Plus everyone tells me how awful it is for me, but really, I was drinking diet/caffeine free. It wasn’t like I was downing a two liter of coke daily (whoops almost typed cock). I guess though their point is I’m not drinking enough water because of my soda habit. And it’s full of all kinds of chemical/ingredients I can’t even pronounce–and really have no desire to learn how to pronounce. But whatever…I still love soda. But I’m giving it up. To see how I feel after a month.
Anyway, tomorrow (Tuesday) it’ll be a week. Which is pretty darn awesome for me.
So. Do you drink soda?
So, over Christmas, the Mad Madam M said she wanted a desktop image of Treasured, which is her favorite cover of mine, and a book she help me come up with the concept for.
I emailed the super fabulous cover artist, Anne Cain, who I love like a fat kid loves cake, and said I’d like to commission her to make this present for M. Then I thought, why should just M and I enjoy the awesomeness of Anne’s work? So, she made me a couple of different sizes, and I’ve added these to my Extras page.
Here they are! Downloadable desktop images for Treasured. I want to hug them and squeeze them, pet them and call them George. Soooo preeeeetty!
Double Your Pleasure
Fran Lee
Ellora’s Cave 2009
Helen is working a latte shop just outside an upscale high-rise apartment in Manhattan. Switching shifts with her boss, she finds herself face-to-face with the most delicious, maddeningly arrogant men she’s ever met. He’s hot and sexy as hell, but the fact that he can’t lift his eyes from her chest is a strike against him. Too bad he’s such a jerk…she would have loved to get to know him better. But as soon as he’s out of sight, she turns around to find another one, just like him, but this one looks her in the eye, and has a smile that takes her breath away. Dear Lord, there are two of them?
Jason and Jonathon Blackstone have the same taste in clothes, cars and women. Identical twins, they often trade clothes…and sometimes they even share their women. Jon may have seen her first, but Jace intends to be the man who gets her. Unfortunately, he may just end up having to share again, since the sexy coffee girl seems to want them both.
Excerpt:
She was counting out change for an elderly couple who had just sprung for a decadently sweet pair of marshmallow vanilla mint lattes when she saw him again. He must have gone and changed, because instead of the screamingly expensive charcoal suit, he was wearing a screamingly expensive leather sport jacket with a blue shirt, … [Link]
Black Dragon's Heart (paperback)
by Anita Philmar
Blurb-
Devoted chemist, Sarah VanHorn, lives for her research but fantasizes about loving Jake Ramsey. Her two worlds collide when the dragon center agent arrives to rescue her from the company suspected of producing chemicals dangerous to those with dragon blood.
Sarah’s not the only one with fantasies. Jake wants Sarah as his mate and he's waited years to claim her. Now, under his protective custody–not to mention the influence of Syndetic's sexual stimulant scenting the air–he can't resist the fiery temptation to finally make her his.
But when tragedy strikes and their dreams are threatened, will Sarah sacrifice her career, Jake, and possibly her life to discover the answers? And will Jake let her?
Excerpt -
“William sent you here, didn’t he?” Sarah laid her hands on Jake’s shoulders, wondering if she’d lost her mind. For a lifetime, she’d wanted to make love to him. Now, he covered her chest, stomach, legs.
“Yes, and he’s the reason I shouldn’t let this go any further.” Jake shifted her hips to the edge of the narrow bed. “My assignment isn’t to sample the pleasures of your body, but to free you from here and carry you home to your family.”
His gaze fell to her breasts. Sarah smiled. The fire in his dragon blood demanded the same relief hers did. “But you will, won’t you? Because if you don’t, I might press the button by the door. You know it’s the responsibility of every cadet to report to security … [Link]
