Redneck Romance Writer » Thirteen Things I Learned From Watching “How The Earth Was Made”
It’s a guilty secret. I watch “How The Earth Was Made” for fun.
1. New York is set on some of the oldest bedrock
2. The San Andreas Fault Has straight parts–at San Francisco and Los Angeles
3. New York Harbor was created when a flash flood crashed through huge boulders at the entrance.
4. Scotland was once connected to North America
5. Loch Ness is a straight line for twenty miles because of the Great Glen Fault
Which is like the San Andreas fault but its 450 million years old.
6. The 1906 Earthquake in SF was probably so damaging because of Sheer movement
7. Most earthquakes shake or roll, but Sheer movement occurs on straight parts of a fault
8. England slammed into Scotland and created HUGE mountain ranges
9. The Rockies were once 6 miles high
10. Volcanoes erupted all over Scotland and created the Atlantic ocean
11. Basalt is a sign of volcanic activity
12. Plate tectonics is a relatively new concept, developed in the second half of the twentieth century
13. The Parallel Roads in Glen Roy were created by Glaciers

Emma Petersen » Thank you Mr. Whedon
The words Girl Power have been said before but no one has said it/expressed it as succinctly as Joss Whedon. He created the most iconic, kick ass female character in the history of female characters.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, love her or hate her you have to admit that she was a positive image for girls and women of all ages.
Sure, she was flawed. Sure, she made mistakes. But that’s what made her so incredibly awesome.
The other day I watched the final season for the first time. And I can admit at the end I got all misty eyed. Why? Because it was about power, taking back power, giving power and claiming your power.
So thank you Mr. Whedon. I really appreciate all the years of entertainment you’ve given me. From the very beginning to the very end, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is always going to be my favorite show ever.
Now I have to find the comic books (Season 8,9,etc, I think they’re comics.) and continue on with my love of BTVS.

Taste of Kiwi » Driving Me Crazy
I don’t drive very often because it’s not my favorite thing to do. I’m much happier walking or catching the bus or train so I can read or write at the same time. Today I drove to our local town to do some banking and pick up prescriptions. I’m firmly convinced most of the drivers on the road are idiots. I was pleased to get back home in one piece.
In honor of drivers everywhere, both good and bad, here are Thirteen Driving Quotes
1. Natives who beat drums to drive off evil spirits are objects of scorn to smart Americans who blow horns to break up traffic jams. ~Mary Ellen Kelly
2. Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead. ~Mac McCleary
3. A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after. ~Peter De Vries
4. The best car safety device is a rear-view mirror with a cop in it. ~Dudley Moore
5. It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road. ~Author Unknown
6. Leave sooner, drive slower, live longer. ~Author Unknown
7. And I, I took the road less traveled by. I was using a GPS system. ~Robert Brault, www.robertbrault.com
8. I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol. ~Author Unknown
9. Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves. …

RomErotica Writers » Are you being Careless?
Hello! How's everyone doing this month? How's March treating you? I've been keeping really busy. So far, I've tackled a novel (my NaNoWriMo novel, actually) third draft, as well as a novella third draft. They're both finished and submitted, but the world definitely has more stories in it.
As I mentioned last month, my latest Damnation Books novella was released at the beginning of this month. And I'm still really excited about it. You see, CARELESS is the second book in the Alyce Kerr, Faith Healer Trilogy. The third/last installment will be released in June. So there's something else to look forward to.
But let's talk about CARELESS. In the first novella, I introduced a character called Alyce Kerr. She's a faith healer who tours the country and miraculously cures the sick with the touch of her hand. Of course, that comes at a very high cost–she's attached to a demon who's slowly eating her soul. In the second book, Alyce and Ross (the ex who is now so much more) venture out to meet with a demonologist. A woman who may be able to help them get rid of their demonic problem. But being the second book, there's more trouble to deal with than they both expected.
I hate to admit it, but I had a great time torturing these characters. Just when I think Alyce and Ross are going to be okay, that all the bad and dark stuff is behind them, another idea strikes and I find myself … [Link]
Fierce Romance » Series That Keep You Wanting More
I have to admit, I'm a sucker for series. I've gotten caught up in two series by Eloisa James, the Essex Sisters series with the delightful Shakesperean titles, and more recently the Desperate Duchesses series. James does a great job of weaving the stories of subsequent books into the current book, so you can't wait to read the next one. Even a series of two works for me. I read Jennifer Haymore's A Hint of Wicked, and I'm looking forward to A Touch of Scandal coming out later this month so I can find out what happens to a character from the first book.
I wrote my own series for Harlequin Intrigue, The McClintock Brothers. It's funny, when I wrote the first book in the series, Circumstantial Memories, I didn't have a series in mind until the hero of that book decided he needed two brothers. So of course, I had to tell their stories, and then lo and behold, an illegitimate brother popped up for the McClintocks. The second book in the series, The Sheriff of Silverhill, came out in Jan. of this year, and the remaining two books, The McClintock Proposal and A Silverhill Christmas, will be out in Sept. and Dec. of this year.
With the McClintock series finished, I'm embarking on an adventure with another four men who will be keeping me company for the next year. My Harlequin Intrigue series, Brothers in Arms, will consist of four books – all 2011 releases. The brothers in question aren't … [Link]
Leah Braemel » Where the heck is Leah?
You may have noticed I've been MIA on the blog a lot this past week. I've been head-down frantically working on revising my WIP because I knew I had edits coming down the pipeline for Texas Tangle. Well, the edits have arrived and I'm now on deadline. So expect me to be MIA until next Friday the 26th…which conveniently enough is also when I leave for my semi-annual Writers' Retreat.
But don't worry, I've still got my Wednesday guest bloggers–Shelley Munro is here on the 24th. Don't forget you still have until Friday to enter last Wednesday's guest blogger Juniper Bell's contest.
If you're wondering what to do, wander over to Vivian Arend's blog. She's starting a contest today and will be giving away books every day.

The Rantings & Ravings of Jeanne St. James » 13 Facts about French Bulldogs
13 Facts about French Bulldogs
Last month, my husband and I adopted a French Bulldog from the French Bulldog Rescue Network. He is a 2 year old deaf Frenchie who is a lot of fun and we are thrilled with him! So in honor of our “Iggy” I decided to do thirteen facts about French bulldogs today! Enjoy! *All the pictures are of Iggy.
1. French Bulldogs have earned the nickname “Frog Dogs” due to the way they lay with their back legs splayed out behind them.
2. French Bulldogs were in the top 5 most popular dog breeds between 1909-1914.
3. Originally Frenchies had both “bat” (the upright, rounded ears we are used to) and “tulip” ears (folded over ears). It was American fanciers of the breed who insisted that the “bat” ears were actually the correct confirmation, which carried over into the breed standard.
4. French Bulldogs come in a multitude of colors. According to the AKC breed standard, recognized colors include brindle, fawn, white, brindle and white, and any color except those which result in disqualification. Colors that result in disqualification are solid black, mouse, liver, black and tan, black and white, and white with black.
5. French Bulldogs can be stubborn during training, but they respond well to positive reinforcement.
6. Because of their Bull and Terrier roots, some Frenchies can be prone to dog aggression.
7. Frenchies are companion dogs and thus make great companions for apartment dwellers.
8. Most French Bulldogs snore due to their flat faces. … [Link]

Shapeshifter Seductions » New Sale!
I get to post about a new sale today. I even have a cover to show off! No, this doesn’t have anything to do with shapeshifters, but I will give you this little tip: my hero undergoes a transformation of the class type in the end. A spoiler? Well you know it’s a romance, so of course it has a happy ending. (Despite the characters who die and the characters who face social ruin and the characters who get sick…)
Claiming Lady Marianne will be released by Ellora’s Cave later this year. Isn’t the cover fantastic? Here’s a little snippet:
After Marianne is caught en compromise with another woman, Viscount Cobham is fed up. He remands Marianne to the care of her beastly grandfather with orders that she take a lover- a male lover. She is to get herself with child by the time he returns from his travels in six months. He will have his heir, one way or another. Marianne’s grandfather charges his stable master with the task, and Marianne is bound to her bed every third night to await the burly man.
Michael Ainsworth is no stud horse himself, and Baron Thurlow’s task is too ghastly to consider. But Michael longs for a glimpse of the pretty girl who used to cling to the paddock fence to watch the horses, and when he finds her terrified and unwilling, his honor demands he protect her. While he knows the viscountess can never love a lowly servant, every day his … [Link]
Jax's Artistic Journey… » Happy St. Paddy's
Of course, being Irish, I have to celebrate this particularly green holiday! This year is going to be a small and private celebration. In past years I would go out with buddies and we'd drink so much green beer we'd probably glow in the dark….well, today I'm meeting up with my writing friend and we're not going to be persuaded by the little leprechauns–even if they sing and do a little dance. Nope, I'm going to focus on finishing my edits. I'm gonna be a good girl for a change!
I just realized it's been a while since I wrote a story set in Ireland. I must do it in the near future because it's another setting, besides Paris, that I love writing about so much. Hummm, come to think of it, I actually have a project with an editor that I haven't received a response on since last year…
You know that in Dublin they have an actual festival for this holiday. It usually lasts six days and it's filled with all kinds of fun. Makes me wish I was there so I can put on the green wig.
Well, Happy St. Paddy's and I hope you guys celebrate for me

Kiss and Tell » Erin Go Bragh!
It’s Saint Patrick’s Day. The day of the year that the Irish take over the world. Why? Because we know how to party. Really. St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland, but saints did that all over the world. Why the big rush to party on his behalf?
I’ll tell you why. Timing. St. Paddy’s day fell right smack dab in the middle of Lent. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with Lent, it is forty days of fasting and self-denial. EXCEPT for St. Patrick’s Day. The festival became a break for such self-denial, especially the drinking. So it held on as a cultural festival and followed the Irish faithful wherever they have scattered across the world.
Actually, for most of modern-day Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has been more of a religious occasion than a pagan party. Until the 70’s, Irish laws closed the pubs on March 17. In 1995, the Irish government began a national campaign to use St. Patrick's Day as an opportunity to promote tourism in Ireland and reopened them. Millions of people now flock to Dublin to participate in the festivals.
Most of the St. Paddy’s early drinking frivolity took place in the US. In 1762, Irish soldiers marched though New York to help them reconnect to their Irish roots. The parade grew and so did the celebration. Now it’s the largest civilian parade in the US with about 150,000 participants.
As for the rest of the non-Irish population, well, who’s to pass on a great party … [Link]
Dana's Magic and Mayhem » Time For The MEAT GRINDER!
Today I finished the rough draft of Hecate’s Own! WOOT!
When you look at the word count meter it will tell you I still have roughly 2500 words to go before I hit 60k. Well I can tell you I'm going to break the 60k mark in the Grinder. I already know I need at least two more love scenes. Some questions remain unanswered that really should be in this book. Some questions should be added or deleted for the third book (which is looking more and more like it might be Gareth and Gen rather than Daniel and Kerry). And the final fight scene needs some beefing up.
So yeah, by the time I'm done I'm pretty sure I'll hit around 65k. I'm planning on hitting that mark by Monday, at which point I send this off to the Betas. Think I should warn them? [Link]
Cleopatra's Perfume: The Prequel » A Naughty Victorian Lady tells the tale of a naughty Irish maid on St. Patrick’s Day
by Lady Carlton nĂ©e Katie O’Roarke, heroine of “The Blonde Samurai”
Did you notice the gleam in his eye and the snicker on his lordship’s face when he kissed you goodbye on this grand morning and left for his club? Did he sport a green silk puff in his lapel, perhaps? Or a green plaid cravat tucked under his portly chin?
Then I chance to wonder if he was on his way to Madame Moiret’s on York Street on this fine St. Patrick’s Day, a lucky day for the wearing ‘o the green and for all the gentleman who visit there.
Including his lordship.
What is the attraction? you ask. Green Guinness? Green-eyed mistresses wearing green stockings and rose garters and nothing else?
No, ’tis one plucky young Irish maid by the name of Darla O’Clancy.
What makes her so popular, you wish to know, a maid no less?
Before I tell you, I shall recount a passage from my memoir, The Blonde Samurai, about the similarity between the lucky shamrock and its counterpart in Japan, the maple leaf.
“Content to be on my own, I took long walks in the late afternoon on the Bluff [Yokohama], strolling through dusky gardens with paths and stone lanterns warmed by the deepening sunset, a unique shimmer upon them glowing like tiny sparks among gray ashes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the season for the delicate maple trees with their seven-pointed red leaves, but that …

Paige Tyler – Author of Sexy, Romantic Fiction » 4.5 Hearts for EROTIC EXPOSURE from The Romance Studio!
I’m so excited! Jean at The Romance Studio gave EROTIC EXPOSURE, my hot new erotic romance from Ellora's Cave 4.5 Hearts and a great review!
“Erotic Exposure is a delicious and fast moving short story. It starts fun and flirty, but quickly moves to hot and sexy. Liz is a bit of a hesitant siren, but she quickly warms up to the game. She makes a decision about what she wants, and isn't afraid to let Kent know. I also liked that neither of them backed away, but were willing to indulge in an adventure and see where it led. The chemistry between these characters is right on. I think anyone would enjoy this quick read."

Beyond the Veil » Éire go Brách
Ireland Forever!
There’s something special about Ireland. What is it about this island just off the northwest coast of Europe that makes so many hearts sing, so many souls dance?
It could be the whiskey; it has certainly been "inspiration" for generations.
Or is it the beauty of the island itself?
The richness of Ireland's history?
(Dunguaire Irish Castle)
It could be the Irish people themselves that fascinate us, with their reputation for a quick temper and a quicker laugh. It makes them fierce enemies, and passionate artists.
"I am a drinker with a writing problem."- Brendan Behan
Ireland sits at the very top of my "someday I'll visit there" list. I'm more than a bit envious of my baby sister; she's in the middle of her second trip there now. Lucky for me she'll have many fabulous stories (and hopefully pictures) to share when she gets home.
One day a year, on St. Patrick's Day, most of the world finds a reason to be Irish. Maybe it's an excuse to go out drinking (please, as a former bartender, I beg you to avoid the green beer). Maybe an excuse to get kissed? And who really needs an excuse for that.
As much as anything, I love that the Irish have a saying for everything. One of my favorites -
“A toast to your coffin. May it be made of 100 year old oak. And may we plant the tree together, tomorrow."
Whether you love the country for its beer, its beauty, its art, …

Embrace the Shadows » A little bit mad…
The truth is, to make it as an author, you have to be a little bit mad. Statistics are against you. Time is against you. There are times when it seems as if the market is against you. Yet, against all odds, you have to believe in yourself and the story you want to tell.
Crazy, eh?
But I’m not just talking about needing to embrace the insane, optimistic never-say-die heart that beats “you can do it” in your chest. I’m actually talking about being angry.
It took the most frustrating personal rejection of my life to get me published. Everything the editor didn’t like about my story was intentional…”the hero and heroine have an antagonistic relationship”…um…~ vs. vampire killer???? “the villain is too appealing to the heroine”…um…Hell, yeah!!!!
That rejection made me angry, but it also proved that I could write the story I meant to write.
I had intended everything I’d been dinged for. Huzzah! (It also proved I hadn’t done a good job of targeting my manuscript to the right publisher:D)
That rejection gave birth to my first published story. And, yes, I was a little bit crazy and a little bit angry when I wrote it.
Mad.
As authors we have to find the balance between angry and “crazy like a fox”. We have to let rejections fuel our fire and we also have to allow our Hatter to come out and play. We have to learn from our …
